PCE Regional Insights: Enhancing Care for Patients With Type 2 Diabetes: A Focus on Incretin-Based Therapies is designed to help nurse practitioners and physician assistants understand the role of the incretin system in maintaining a healthy glycemic state; how incretin-based therapies differ from other T2DM medications; and how to incorporate incretin-based therapy into the management of appropriate patients with T2DM. 

Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, participants will be better able to:

  1. Describe the physiology of glucose metabolism, including the role of incretins in the first-phase insulin response in patients with T2DM
  2. Explain the role of ß-cell health in the pathophysiology of diabetes
  3. Design a plan that incorporates incretin-based therapies as part of optimal management of appropriate patients with T2DM
  4. Apply specific strategies to increase adherence of patients to optimal glycemic therapy
